What this app stores
Instant Site Search builds a search index from your product catalog so your storefront search can answer quickly. To do that it stores the following, keyed to your shop domain:
- Product data from your catalog: title, handle, vendor, product type, tags, description text, price, featured image URL, publication status, and whether the product is in stock. This comes from Shopify and is kept in sync by product webhooks.
- Search terms typed on your storefront, with the number of results each returned and the time it happened. This is what powers the "searches that came up empty" report in the app.
- Your plan, the price you signed up at, and how many searches you have used this month.
- Synonyms you add yourself, so a term a shopper types can find the products you choose.
- Whether we have shown you the review prompt, so we do not show it again.
- The state of the initial catalog indexing, so a failed run can be retried.
- An access token issued by Shopify when you install the app, used to read your products.
What this app does not collect
We do not collect any information that identifies a shopper. Search terms are stored on their own, with no visitor identifier, no IP address, no cookie, no session id, and no account. A search term cannot be traced back to the person who typed it, by us or by anyone reading our database.
We do not collect customer records, orders, checkout data, or payment information. The app requests a single Shopify permission, read_products, and nothing else.
We do not use your data to train models, and we do not sell or share it.
Where the data lives
The app runs on Railway (railway.com) and stores data in a PostgreSQL database hosted there, in the United States. Railway processes data only to host the service.
Shopify is the source of the product data and the platform the app runs inside.
There are no other processors. No analytics service, no advertising network, no error-reporting service receives your data.
How long it is kept
While the app is installed, the search index reflects your current catalog. Search terms are kept so the empty-search report can cover the last 30 days.
When you uninstall the app, Shopify sends a shop/redact request 48 hours later. On that request we delete everything we hold for your shop. Nothing is kept after that.
You can ask for deletion sooner by emailing us.
Requests from shoppers
Shopify forwards customer data requests and customer deletion requests to every installed app. We answer both: because we hold no shopper-identifying data, there is nothing to return and nothing to delete. We respond so that your own compliance obligations are met.
Changes
If what we store changes, this page changes with it before the change ships. The date at the top of this page is the last time that happened.
